  • The UN Loses Its Luster in the US
  • September 25, 2003

    By Tom DeWeese

A recent poll by USA Today/CNN/Gallup revealed that more Americans have a negative view of the UN than at any time in its history. 60% of those polled said the UN is doing a poor job, compared to 37% who say it’s doing a good job. More than 55% said the Security Council’s refusal to explicitly back the war in Iraq made them view the UN less favorably.

Significantly, the poll went on to reveal that most Americans want to cut congressional support for the UN. Fully 37% said UN funding should be decreased.

While Americans are beginning to understand that the UN is not our friend, some in Canada still don’t get it. Dennis Mills, a member of the Canadian Parliament is floating the idea of offering space in downtown Toronto for a new UN headquarters.

Mills argues that Toronto’s unique multicultural nature, coupled with Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien’s insistence on sticking with the UN throughout the war in Iraq, would make Canada’s largest city a perfect place to breathe new life into the much-maligned international body.

Mills has in mind 160 acres of undeveloped Toronto waterfront property. The land is currently being considered for a proposed series of high-rise condominiums where private citizens could live happy, private and productive lives, using their own money earned through honest hard work; the antithesis of the United Nation’s socialist policies. Mills longs to use the land for “more creative purposes” than mere human happiness. That’s why he thinks it’s the perfect place for the UN, where the land will be wasted on bloated bureaucrats who push worthless paper, and dream up schemes to burden human progress.

The problem is that the UN knows where the bucks are. They are right here in the good old US of A. The UN has no intention of moving to provincial Canada. Even with the offer of a new building on newly liberated ground in a country controlled by globalist home boys, the UN says it’s sticking with its plans to renovate the old headquarters in New York and is lobbying hard to secure an interest-free loan from American taxpayers.

Clearly, Americans are no longer inclined to underwrite this essentially subversive organization. During the weeks leading up to the Iraq invasion, the Bush administration appeared to take that position, however, if one is going to take a strong stand to defy global elitists, then one must be prepared to back it up or suffer the consequences.

Now, things have gotten a little tough out in the desert as cowardly Saddam’s loyalists pick off American soldiers one by one. Did the United States actually expect everyone in Iraq except Saddam to be good little capitalists, thrilled to have the U.S. take over their country? It’s war and should be treated as such. Instead, the U.S. treats it like a police action, trying to arrest just a few bad guys.

Instead of taking control of the situation on our own terms, in a panic, Colin Powell and others in the Administration are showing their true colors by pushing for UN inclusion. The sight of U.S. diplomats, the swagger of springtime gone, groveling before the likes of Germany, France, China and Russia, pleading for the UN to help us, is too disgusting for words. To make matters worse, even amidst their groveling, the Administration arrogantly insists that the United States be in charge of the whole operation.

A blind man could certainly see the UN’s response coming long before that proposal was made. The front page of The Washington Times said it all as it displayed a photograph of German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder and French President Jacques Chirac smugly guzzling beers in Dresden, Germany, as the caption read: “They called the U.S. proposal ‘not dynamic enough, not sufficient.’”

The Administration’s actions, by going back to the UN, tail between its legs, asking for help from the very people it arrogantly flipped off just months ago, is a disaster of incalculable proportions for American independence and sovereignty.

France, Russia and Germany took a gamble in defying the United States last March. They gambled that globalism was the future and the provincial notion that nations are free to defend themselves is a relic of a bygone era. These nations see the UN as their ticket to their own global power against the U.S.

The Bush Administration’s groveling has proven them right on both counts; at least in the collective minds of the power-elite. When will a nation ever again have the courage to stand up for itself? Our fate may now have been sealed.

  • The Attack of the Alien Outlaws
  • September 17, 2003

    By Tom DeWeese

The instant they plant their foot on American soil they have broken the law. They are illegal aliens and, from that moment, they become a plague on every American’s quality of life.

They crowd our schools and don’t pay for the privilege. They fill our hospitals, forcing many into bankruptcy.

They help to infest our nation with dangerous drugs, destroying our children while the crime rate soars.

Thousands sneak across the border in dilapidated trucks, endangering law-abiding Americans on our highways.

They flood our welfare rolls, costing American taxpayers as much as $30 billion dollars per year.

As the plague accelerates, few of our elected leaders care to even mention the problem of illegal aliens from Mexico.

When you or I break the law in America, we face the possibility of fines, perhaps jail time or at least of getting our cars towed. Nations make laws because they are supposed to be obeyed. Laws give our society structure and direction. Without them we would sink into anarchy, with everyone grabbing for themselves. No lives and no property could be secure.

Those who ignore the laws are called “outlaws.” A nation that begins to ignore enforcement of its laws soon loses control to its outlaws.

Alien outlaws now run freely into the United States from Mexico. Not only does American law enforcement do little to stop it, politicians are busy dishing up goody bags to encourage even more to step across our border.

Hospital care is free – to them. Paid for by American taxpayers. Have a baby on this side of the border and the whole family can run across and get a home complete with welfare payments and food stamps to keep the whole lot. Research shows that illegal aliens are 67 percent more likely to use major welfare programs than U.S.-born families.

In the four states that border Mexico, hospitals provide at least $200 million per year in uncompensated emergency care leaving them in dire financial crisis. American citizens who built the highest standard of living in the world through a free economy and hard work now find it difficult to get medical care in their own town. The emergency wards are full of illegals taking up space and doctors’ time.

Schools in the border states are reaching the breaking point as overcrowding is forcing local communities to raise taxes to pay for the construction of new buildings that simply would not be needed if the borders were controlled. Schools can’t ask if the children are here legally. They must simply accept them. Schools can’t insist that they speak English. Federal curriculum dictates that they be taught in their native language, forcing schools to provide special teachers and classroom space. Taxpayers are paying a huge price for people who are in this country illegally.

In Virginia, as well as other parts of the nation, states are being sued by illegals if they are denied admission into state colleges because they are here illegally. Virginia Attorney General Jerry Kilgore last year issued an opinion to Virginia colleges that they should deny admission to illegal immigrants and suggested that admissions officers report potentially illegal applicants to federal authorities. Now Hispanic illegals have filed suit against seven Virginia colleges, claiming the schools’ presidents are following “ill-conceived” legal advice from the Attorney General.

What right do these people have in our nation’s colleges? How do people who aren’t supposed to be in this nation get legal access to our tax-paid courts? Why aren’t they arrested and deported when they show up at the courthouse to file the suit? Oh, that’s right, our politicians want their votes.

Those readers who are of the “baby-boomer” generation (I am one) may remember that since the beginning of our working careers we have been told that the Social Security system would be bankrupt by the time we reached retirement age. The baby-boomers represent a huge segment of our population and with so many reaching retirement at the same time the money paid in by the still-working younger generations will not be enough to pay baby-boomer benefits. Politicians have been attempting to place band-aids and quick fixes on the system to prevent the coming disaster.

Now, just as the baby-boomers are getting ready to retire, politicians desperate for Hispanic votes have proposed that outlaw aliens be given Social Security benefits. The Social Security Administration has begun discussions with Mexico to organize such a program. The plan would provide benefits to five million Mexicans who work illegally in the United States. They would get these benefits after they have already provided fake Social Security numbers to their bosses, which is a federal offense. The plan could mean that up to $345 billion could be robbed from the Social Security Trust Fund over the next 20 years. And that’s just the beginning of the costs involved.

Another scheme now under discussion to help government officials hide from the growing outlaw alien crisis is called “guest-workers.” Rep. Jim Kolbe and fellow Arizona Republican, Senator John McCain have introduced a guest-worker bill. The bill would provide two categories of visa; one for foreigners who want to enter the United States to work and the other for outlaw aliens already holding jobs here. Somehow, Kolbe and McCain believe that simply changing the name from “illegal” to “guest” will solve the problem.

Meanwhile, outlaw aliens who are working in this country with full benefits, compliments of U.S. taxpayers, feel absolutely no allegiance to the United States. As the Mexican government encourages its own people to run across the border to get American money, it also encourages them to “think Mexican” first and send as much money home as possible. This year Mexicans in America will send home at least $13 billion, thus aiding the Mexican economy while draining the American taxpayer. Where do politicians see a benefit here? Oh, yeah, votes.

The Mexican government is staging an all-out raid on the laws and sovereignty of the United States. Mexican President Vicente Fox sees this nation’s economy as his own to redistribute and cure his own nation’s economic woes.

He demands that the United States declare a complete amnesty for all illegals, thus allowing them full U.S. citizenship. To force the issue, Fox’s government has begun issuing ID cards to illegals in the United States called the “matricula consular.” It looks like a California driver’s license and costs the holder $29. It gives the impression of an official guarantee that the holder is who it says he is and that the address listed is correct. There is no truth to that. Yet, now 13 states are accepting the matricula consular for the purpose of issuing a driver’s license to outlaw aliens. Once a legitimate U.S driver’s license is in hand, the outlaws have the entire American system opened to them. Now, Wells Fargo, Bank of America and 74 other banks accept the card in order to open bank accounts. At least 800 police departments in cities across the nation accept the card as valid ID.

The Mexican government intends to flood the nation with the cards, thus creating an unstoppable situation, forcing the Congress to grant the amnesty to cure a hopeless situation. So successful has the matricula consular been for Mexican outlaws that Guatemala, Poland, Haiti and Nicaragua plan to issue similar cards to their citizens now illegally in the United States. Hillary Clinton and Ted Kennedy have already prepared the legislation to oblige the Fox government. S. 2444 would allow the president to grant amnesties to millions of outlaw aliens via trade agreements or executive order.

In pushing his “guest-worker” scheme, Representative Jim Kolbe stated: “We’ve tried clamping down on the border, just as we have with drugs, with no success there.” That statement is not correct. The fact is we have not even attempted to clamp down on the borders to keep alien outlaws out of this country.

Even the Patriot Act, the oppressive new law designed to make America safe from terrorism, failed to even mention tightening the Mexican border, though it goes to great lengths to discuss security measures along the Canadian border. Further, the Patriot Act panders to the Fox administration by making it clear that the new security measures don’t discourage bank acceptance of the matricula consular card, even though it is completely worthless in documenting details about the card holder.

The fact is the border between the United States and Mexico is an open sieve, though deceptive efforts have been made by our own government to make us think security measures have been tightened. Today, Americans attempting to cross from Mexico back into the United States through legal check points will find themselves delayed for up to two hours as their bags are tightly checked and papers are closely examined. The show of force leaves Americans with the impression that the government is really doing the job.

However, take a drive a few miles down the border and you’ll find a completely different situation. No security patrol stops alien outlaws from simply walking across the border into the United States. No delays. No papers checked. No one is there.

Daily, thousands of alien outlaws race across the border, bringing drugs, crime and poverty to our nation. Vast national parks and wilderness are becoming hideouts and havens for the outlaws. Taxes in cities are skyrocketing as America’s standard of living begins to fall. Some areas of the nation, especially along the border, now resemble a third world battlefield; a breeding ground for crime and terrorists. Americans seem helpless, on the brink of losing control of our own nation as politicians pander to the wishes of foreign governments and the whims of outlaws who don’t belong here.

Why is the United States the only nation on earth that is not allowed to determine who lives here? When will our own elected officials begin to take the right action instead of throwing up their hands, saying illegal immigration is just part of our reality?

Finally, action is being taken. Congressman Charlie Norwood, Georgia Republican has introduced the “Clear Law Enforcement for Alien Removal Act of 2003 (CLEAR). The act addresses the growing US criminal-alien crisis by allowing more than 600,000 state and local law enforcement officials in the field to enforce immigration laws during the course of carrying out their regular duties. It may seem self-evident that police could arrest illegal aliens when they come across them, but current law doesn’t allow it anymore than schools are allowed to ask if students are illegal.

Discussing the need for the bill, Norwood said, “An immigration system that can’t account for 400,000 illegal aliens awaiting deportation, puts 80,000 criminals back out on our streets and tries to carry out its job with just 2,000 employees (Immigration Service) to enforce the law is reflective of a system that is badly broken and desperately in need of help.”

More bills are needed to remove the incentives that bring them here, eliminating free education and healthcare, welfare and food stamp hand outs, and jobs to which they are not entitled. “Illegal” means outside of the law and that means outside of the legal programs protected by the law. Americans need to rally behind Norwood’s CLEAR Act and demand more like it until every outlaw alien is thrown out of the nation or sits behind bars.

  • The Illusion of National Security
  • September 4, 2003

    By Tom DeWeese

No one, after 911, can doubt that our national and our personal safety has been attacked by Islamic fanatics bent on imposing their religion via “jihad” or holy war. Our government has been energized. Not since Lyndon Johnson’s “Great Society” have the forces of Big Brother been so excited. They have a mission. They have a plan. They have programs. They have regulations. All desperately needed, says the government, to fight terrorism.

As free Americans, however, we must ask ourselves some serious questions. Are the tactics being implemented here at home necessary? Are they effective in fighting terrorism? Are our liberties being protected? Is there a separate agenda being pursued? Why has virtually no effective action been taken to truly secure our borders, allowing an estimated 350,000 people to illegally invade our nation every year? Why has little been done to find and deport an estimated seven to eight million illegal immigrants? Why did our huge investments in agencies that include the FBI and CIA fail us? And how will another huge federal bureaucracy do a better job of securing our safety?

I have been through many airports since 9-11 and I have seen a lot of changes taking place. It has occurred to me that there are two basic approaches that could be taken to stop terrorists from stealing an airplane.

Approach A says that you must look at everyone as a potential threat. To do that, you need to establish long security lines, manned with lots of big, scary-looking guys who look through every bag, shoe and cell phone. You need metal detectors and prying cameras. And you need to use computers to provide detailed background checks on every single American trying to get on a plane, just in case they have a record of suspicious behavior, such as paying cash for their ticket or only buying a one-way trip. Don’t forget the all important random selection of children and grandmothers who will then be subjected to constant searches throughout their trip. Once you have assured that every law-abiding American is sufficiently disarmed you can then let them travel on the plane.

Now it seems that such a system would be extremely reassuring to any potential terrorist. Why? Because he has been trained to get around such barriers. And he will more than likely have help from buddies in his terrorist network who may have obtained jobs working for the airlines and can move in and out of the planes, leaving any tools he may need. Finally, his mission is greatly aided by the federal government which has already disarmed all the rest of the passengers. He is now free to move about the cabin.

Then there is approach B. Let the airlines choose their own methods of protecting their customers. You remember: freedom of choice. You see, it’s a plain fact that government can’t protect you on an airplane. Let the airlines provide a variety of ideas and the passengers can decide which ones appeal to them.

Now here’s one that would appeal to me. In a classic “Archie Bunker” episode, the famed TV character proposed that guns be issued to every passenger as they got on the plane. Just imagine the scene as the terrorists leave their seats and head for the cockpit. Suddenly, free Americans stand, point their pistols and say, “Not in this lifetime, Abdul!” Some may say that’s crazy, but I wonder which method some of those passengers on the doomed flights of 9-11 would have chosen if given another chance.

Of course, our nation’s leaders have chosen plan A. Now, with this mess of high-profile, high-tech-driven, security hysteria, some folks are saying they feel safer just knowing our government is doing something. Is the system effective against terrorists, or just a massive invasion of our private lives?

The human rights group, Privacy International, collected more than 5,000 nominations for its awards for the world’s dumbest security measures. The “Most Inexplicably Stupid Award” went to Philadelphia International Airport, where agents quarantined a room after a Saudi college student sprayed himself with cologne. San Francisco General Hospital earned the “Most Stupidly Counterproductive Award” for requiring anybody entering the emergency room, including homeless people, to show ID. Delta Airlines security officers at New York’s Kennedy Airport won the “Most Flagrantly Intrusive Award” for forcing a nursing mother to drink her own bottled breast milk to prove it wasn’t dangerous.

The Department of Homeland Security has created restrictions on recreational boaters, who, upon returning from a foreign port such as the Bahamas, are required to clear customs through either a hotline number or appearing in person before an immigration officer at a U.S. port of entry. The regulation prompted Congressman Mark Foley to remark, “Osama bin Laden isn’t going to check in after coming ashore.”

Meanwhile, Senator Richard Shelby received a letter from a constituent named Christine Mito who is a life-long resident of the historic town of Shelby, Alabama. Mrs. Mito had just married and her new husband, a prominent Egyptian businessman, arrived in Atlanta Airport to begin his new life. Upon his arrival he was detained for more than five hours as he was fingerprinted and a mug shot was taken, yet his passport was not stamped as it should have been.

A few weeks later he was required to report for a follow-up interview with the Immigration and Naturalization Service only to discover that they had no record of a mug shot or fingerprints! They had to do it all over again and charged him $50 for the privilege. Then, in follow-up correspondence, Mr. Mito was asked to attach an additional separate photo to “this original green sheet.” Trouble was, there was no “green sheet” enclosed. Meanwhile, as Mr. Mito is barred from getting a job, driver’s license or opening a bank account, his wife asks the logical question: “If the INS can’t even keep his mug shot on file, how the heck are they going to keep track of real terrorists?”

Do you feel safer now? Do you care what tactics the government uses to “keep you safe?” Americans must ask these questions: Are these tactics necessary? Are they effective in fighting terrorism? And is there a separate, possibly hidden agenda other than fighting terrorism being pursued? Are our liberties being protected?

Our government is on a mission. It is the duty of every American to question the purpose and outcome of that mission. Power for power’s sake is not the answer. It’s an illusion.

    Action Alert! Action Alert!

APC is now offering you a quick and easy way to multiply your efforts and help win more battles! Simply click http://www.referralblast.com/rblast.asp?sid=7137 to send this APC Action Alert to up to TEN of your friends! It’s fast, it’s easy, and most of all, it’s extremely effective in KILLING LEFTIST POLICIES!

Your phone calls and faxes are working!

We have forced the vote on the land trust tax favoritism amendment to be delayed until tomorrow morning! This is a positive sign—HOWEVER, THE FIGHT IS FAR FROM OVER.

We must continue to pound away at the phone lines. The greens and The Nature Conservancy’s army of slick lobbyists will be working overtime, today, tonight and tomorrow morning to twist the arms of Congress to get their special tax loophole added to H.R. 7 (The CARE Act).

    WE MUST WORK OVERTIME TOO!!!

We have one more day to make our voices heard. This is it. It’s a showdown that property owners can’t afford to lose.

Multibillion-dollar, green land trusts like the ever-corrupt Nature Conservancy are demanding that Congress add a loophole to H.R. 7 that will discount 50% off of capital gains taxes for a seller of land—BUT only if land is sold to a land trust or government agency! This places EVERYONE ELSE at an extreme comparative disadvantage when attempting to purchase land.

This will severely devalue private property. It will discourage private parties from even bidding on land, so the only offers for land will be made by the land-grabbing green groups and government agencies.

This unfair tax advantage would enable The Nature Conservancy and their greedy cohorts to swallow private property at a RECORD PACE.

The American Land Rights Association and property rights expert, Mike Hardiman, have spelled out all the gory details. Here is what they say:

    a) It will damage the property tax base of communities since more and more land will become tax-exempt. This increases the tax burden on remaining private land—while the Land Trusts sit back, not paying any taxes, and lick their chops deciding who to go after next.

    b) It will hand over more land to government agencies, since this Tax Favoritism proposal permits the tax break for sales of land—ONLY to Land Trusts or government agencies.

    c) It will cost, according the House-Senate Joint Taxation Committee, $948 million – (nearly a BILLION dollars!) added to America’s national debt, just to feed the Land Trusts hunger for more power.

    d) Land Trusts, since they are “non-profits,” already have huge business advantages over private individuals, since they don’t pay taxes and contributions to them are tax deductible. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!

    e) This Tax Favoritism proposal will discourage private parties from even bidding on land, so many times the only offers for land will be made by the twin buzzards of Land Trusts and government agencies. Do you think you will get a fair price from them???

    f) WATER RIGHTS. The Land Trusts are demanding that this Tax Favoritism include sales of water rights, damaging future agriculture use.

    They HAVE to be stopped!

AGAIN, we now have only one more day to bombard Congress with phone calls, faxes and E-mails!

    GO! GO! GO!

    ** ACTION TO TAKE**

Land trusts and federal agencies should NOT be able to peddle a 50% capital gains tax cut to sellers of property. It makes it impossible for others to compete with them when purchasing land! (Phone calls and faxes are most effective at this late hour. E-mails are important too, but may or may not be read in time to have an impact on tomorrow’s vote.)

    2. Call your own Representative, no matter who it is, and tell them NO land trust tax favoritism in H.R. 7! It doesn’t matter if your congressman is conservative or liberal—THEY MUST HEAR FROM YOU! ANY congressman could go either way on this issue so let’s bring them over to OUR SIDE. House Switchboard: (202) 225-3121.

    3. Contact Congressmen Roy Blunt and Richard Pombo. They are fighting hard for property rights and do NOT want to give the multibillion-dollar land trusts and government agencies ANY tax advantages in their never-ending quest to gobble up more and more private property. THANK THEM and let them know they have your support!

For Rep. Roy Blunt, please contact:

    April Ponnuru – april.ponnuru@mail.house.gov
