Sustaining Nothing, Loosing Everything

A new catch phrase, "Sustainable Development", has crept into discussions of the most fundamental right Americans have, the right to own property. It is essential to all other liberties and our economy. It is protected by the US Constitution. That protection is about to be lost if "The Community Character Act" is passed. "The Community Character Act" is a homeowner's association on steroids. It sustains nothing and takes from every American their birthright of freedom. What is Sustainable Development? Imagine an America in which a single, specific ruling principle is created to decide proper societal conduct for every citizen. That principle would be used to consider everything you eat, what you wear, the kind of home in which you live, the way you get to work, the way you dispose of waste, the number of children you may have, even your education and employment decisions. On June 29, 1993, former ...

Brownouts and Blackouts: Power Crisis in California

By Alan Caruba There's a good reason why Clinton administration officials like Energy Secretary Bill Richardson are wringing their hands over the prospect of brownouts and blackouts as demands for more electrical power increase along with the wider use of things like computers. The crisis affecting California could and should have been averted. As recently as July 21st, Secretary Richardson was urging the development of "alternative energy sources such as biofuels and wind power" according to a UPI news article. Like Gore, Richardson was spouting the need to secure "a meaningful decline in our future reliance on fossil fuels…" This is outrageous nonsense. There are enough known reserves of oil, gas, and coal to last well into the next century. Make that centuries if we can just get at the reserves we know exist and that doesn't include those yet to be discovered. His apparent solution to a very serious ...

Spare the Pests. Kill the People!

EPA to Announce Ban, June 8, on Major Pesticide By Alan Caruba Question? What do the following diseases have in common? Malaria, Encephalitis, Dengue fever, Bubonic plague, Salmonellosis, Yellow Fever, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, Lyme disease, Tularemia, Diarrhea, Dysentery, Gastroenteritis, and Typhoid Fever. They are all transmitted by insects such a mosquitoes, ticks, fleas, and cockroaches. Today, they are responsible for killing millions of people around the world every year. Question? Why is the Environmental Protection Agency not only failing to protect Americans against these insect and rodent-borne diseases, but is deliberately leaving people vulnerable by taking away every one of the major pesticides needed to eradicate the vast populations of these pests? The answer is that those who decide these matters in the EPA adhere to the genocidal agenda of the environmental movement that sees the elimination of human beings as the best way to protect the earth. That ...

The Gas Pump Vote Gas Prices Rise. Gore’s Chances Decrease.

As the nation's gas prices rise to the highest point in modern memory this Memorial Day weekend, a prediction in the June issue of The DeWeese Report, published by the American Policy Center, is coming true. Tom DeWeese, president of the Center, writes, "With gas prices rising, Gore may finally have to face what has been a smoking gun since 1992--his radical environmental positions as clearly defined in his book, Earth in the Balance. Gore declared war on the automobile, calling for its demise. In the book he outlined programs and tax increases on gasoline to force drivers to find alternatives to their beloved mode of personal transportation." Promises by Clinton administration spokespersons such as Energy Secretary Richardson regarding lower gas prices are not happening. "Voters, most of whom drive, are slowly awakening to the impact of Gore's views and, in November, will carry the memory of this very expensive ...

The Lifestyle Nazis Will Come For You, Too

by Tom DeWeese A lot of Americans applauded the government’s vicious attack on smoking. It’s such a nasty habit – easy to hate. But as I’ve warned on these pages time and again, the drive against smoking was just the warm up. Already the same tactics have been used to go after guns. Next will be something you like. In certain restaurants in Canada you may be barred from entry if you wear perfume or even use a scented deodorant or shampoo – because you "threaten people’s right to breathe clean air." Smokers, does that sound familiar? Well, you say, it’s nice to go to a restaurant and eat a hearty meal in a peaceful, clean atmosphere. Uh oh…did you say hearty meal? Nope. No can do. Because, according to the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) "Obesity is epidemic." " The availability of more food…and the growth of ...

“Army Green” Takes On A Whole New Meaning

By Peyton Knight Just when you thought radical environmentalists couldn’t get any more irrational… Introducing: GREEN AMMUNITION That’s right. The United States Army is undergoing a colossal overhaul in ammunition manufacturing. They are ditching traditional ammunition (specifically, bullets made of lead and tank shells made of depleted uranium) for "environmentally safe" ammo made of tungsten. The problem? "Clintonistas" say that lead and depleted uranium are harmful to the environment (funny how two elements cultivated by the earth are actually harmful to it…I wonder if the callous earth knows what it’s doing to itself?) They say thousands of birds die every year from ingesting these "harmful" substances. However, as usual these claims are as unfounded as they are ludicrous. The answer? Make the ammunition out of politically correct tungsten of course! Once again, the greens are thinking with their spotted owls instead of their brains. Let’s examine just a few of ...

‘Green Ammunition’ Destroys US Military Weapons Center Warns it Makes US Dependent on Red China

The March issue of the American Policy Center's newsletter, The DeWeese Report, warns the United States Army is "undergoing a colossal overhaul in ammunition manufacturing. They are ditching traditional ammunition"; bullets made of lead and tank shells of depleted uranium, in favor of "environmentally safe" ammunition made of tungsten. An article by Peyton Knight, the Center's director of development, exposes a new effort by the Clinton Administration to degrade existing weapons and leave the U.S. dependent on the world's largest source of Tungston, Red China. Here are the reasons Knight cites: (1) Tungsten is infinitely more expensive than lead. (2) Tungsten bullets will wreak havoc on the standard issue M-16 rifles because lead, being a softer metal, will not destroy the inner barrel or bore of the rifle. Tungsten, the hardest known metal, will ruin every rifle in every fighting soldier's hand. (3) Lead bullets use far less energy to ...

More Chicken-Little Data Proven Wrong

In the 104th Congress, U.S. Senator Mike DeWine of Ohio led the fight to stop the repeal of the federal 55 mile per hour speed limit. Senator DeWine, a Republican who likes to tell his constituents, at election time, that he supports limited government, apparently loses him mind when he steps onto the Senate floor. DeWine argued that allowing states to increase speed limits, without the wisdom of big brother to oversee it, would result in horrible traffic deaths. Federal speed-law advocates predicted 6,400 more people would die a year. Fortunately, Congress did do away with the national speed limit before it lost its nerve to do much else. Now the results are in. In 1996, even though half the states did increase their speed limits, the death rate on the highways declined. In 1997, it declined again. Watch this space - next year The DeWeese Report will provide statistics ...

The Third Way: Stealth Socialism

by Mike Wilson, Editor, APC News Wire British Prime Minister Tony Blair, often called the British version of Bill Clinton, has perfected Clinton’s style of substance-less leadership. Now Blair is the most prominent proponent of a vague new political movement steeped in the lofty idea that society can have its cake and eat it too -- if only there were more "compromise" at the political "center." It’s called the "Third Way" and it’s becoming a successful method for left-wing parties in Europe to get elected in an era when history books conclusively show the failure of Marxist ideology. The Third Way is, in effect, a grudging admission by the left that traditional market controls of collectivist governments cannot thrive in today’s global economy. But at the same time, it’s a stubborn insistence that an activist federal government is still an effective approach to public problems. "The Third Way stands for ...

Al Gore – You Can’t Hide – We Charge You With Genocide

by John Meredith Vice President Al Gore wants to be God. Apparently, he will stop at nothing to advance his global warming agenda eventhough scientists in ever-increasing numbers are rejecting the unproven theory. One of the ways he intends to do it is by killing innocent Third World babies. But, according to Al Gore, genocide "doesn't have to be as controversial as some people make it out to be." Just what part doesn't have to be controversial, Al? The part where American taxpayers are forced to finance your little Holocaust? The part where millions of mothers-to-be fight in vain to keep government thugs from sucking their unborn babies from their wombs with crude medical devices? The part where women are taken from their homes at night and delivered to butchers who cut their bodies open with unsanitary instruments in order to make them sterile? What part, Al, doesn't have to ...
